7 Home Gadgets We Love and Have to Have!
Remember the days of Oprah’s favourite things show? It was hands down my favourite episode every year. It was where I first discovered Ugg’s. While Oprah opted for sequin covered ones, I went with a classic black. Over the years I have purchased a few of her favourite things like a gratitude jar, zodiac necklace, and reading socks. Simple items that gave me joy! As a busy mom of two, I too have acquired my own list of favourites that make our home feel fresh, functional and safe. For those of you with equally hectic lives, I think you’ll find at least one of these items will be a game changer for your family.
Essential Oil Diffuser
I have one in almost every room in our home, and not just because they produce scent, but because of their aromatherapeutic effects. Essential oil diffusers promote sleep, immune support, cleaning, and yes, also neutralize odors and make your home smell fresh. They come in a variety of beautiful shapes and finishes to complement your style, and some have lights and calming music. Charcuterie Board
These are all the rage and I’ve had mine for a few years now. Trust me, the novelty never wears off so if you don’t have one yet, get one. It’s not just what you artfully place on top, but even the board itself is a statement piece for any gathering and will be met with lots of ooo’s and aahh’s. I love my board which I got from Pottery Barn. It’s big enough for groupings of food and bowls of dips and spreads. I have had a lot of fun with it creating seasonal boards for all occasions. Think beyond meats and cheeses and experiment with a dessert board or breakfast board. Delish!
Happy Light
When I first started working from home, a friend recommended I invest in a happy light. Long Canadian winters mean fewer hours of sunlight which is essential for a healthy lifestyle. Most of us don’t get near the amount of bright light we need to experience the suns benefits – improved sleep, mood, energy and focus. Hectic lifestyles and occupations also deprive us of natural daylight – shift work, airplane travel, or an indoor lifestyle. My happy light by Verilux mimics natural light which makes me happy!

A peppermill certainly won’t change your life but boy are these a little ray of sunshine that you won’t want to hide away in your kitchen cabinet. Braava Mop
With two messy kids, I could mop daily if time and patience allowed. Then I discovered this little gem. A little sister to everyone’s favourite Roomba vacuum, the Braava mop by iRobot tackles multiple finished floor types – hardwood, tile and stone. It gets into corners and won’t accidentally spray your furniture, rugs or walls. There’s even an app so you can mop your floors on the go!
Dry Guy
For all you parents out there with kids that play sports, this one is for you! Both of my daughters play ringette five days a week. Their equipment is in a constant state of wet and smelly. But last year one of the parents told me about the best invention ever, the Dry Guy. You just pop skates and gloves on and gentle forced air dries them in about an hour. It’s also perfect for wet boots, shoes and gloves. Goodbye hockey skate stink and bacteria, hello beautiful smelling home!

As an Interior Stylist I have to say that the number one app out there is this sweet little app called Measure. It’s the perfect virtual tool when you are running around shopping for furniture and home décor.
