Do you need a stylist, stager or designer? What’s the difference?

Personalize and speak to your target audience:

Thinking of a home reno but REAL LIFE keeps holding you back? I get it! As a busy working mom of two young and active daughters, I can certainly relate. Our “on-the-go” lifestyles make it hard to find time when we have way more ideas than time! You walk around your home and you know it needs to be styled or updated or decluttered, or maybe even ALL OF THE ABOVE. Before you tackle any home improvement project, save yourself some precious time (and money) by engaging the right professional for the job.

Are you considering hiring a professional to help you with your home? It’s important to know the difference between an interior stylist, stager and designer so you can select the right service to suit your project needs.

What’s an Interior Stylist?

  • Refresh homes without engaging in any structural renovation or alterations

  • Focus on decorative details and aesthetics – colour palettes, fabrics, furniture and accessories

  • Assists with purchasing of new furniture and furniture layouts

  • Mixing old with new to re-imagine rooms

  • Pulls rooms together to reflect a homeowner’s personal style and taste

  • No formal training

What’s a Home Stager?

  • Arranging furniture and décor with intent to showcase a home for sale

  • Goal of staging is to make a home appealing to potential buyers

  • Neutralizing the home and removal of distractions to draw focus on features of home instead

  • De-personalizing by using neutral paint palettes, removal of personal items and day-to-day living items

  • No formal training

What’s an Interior Designer?

  • Offers a broader range of services than Stylist or Stager

  • Designers do decorate but they are capable of more complex design plans involving structural and functional changes

  • Alterations such as removal of walls, redesign of kitchens/bathrooms, custom carpentry

  • Major renovations and new builds

  • Project management – trades including contractors, electricians, plumbers, etc

  • Formal education and training
